In an intense competition yesterday, the RBC Academic Team won first place in both the Varsity A and Varsity B brackets of the Donovan Catholic Academic Challenge. Over the course of the two day competition, the RBC teams advanced against 40 others from schools throughout NJ including CBA, Biotech, M.A.S.T. and Donovan Catholic.
The competition tested the students on a wide range of topics including American and British Literature, Physics, Russian Art, Mathematics, World History and Asian History, to name a few.
Two of RBC’s three teams made it to the single elimination second round and battled it out in both brackets with “edge of your seat” competition, knocking out Woodbridge and Lenape in bracket A and Biotech and Toms River East in bracket B. Heading into the finals, RBC bracket A had a nail-biting battle but ultimately defeated JFK to become the bracket A Champs. RBC bracket B faced off with home team Donovan Catholic but swept both rounds becoming bracket B Champs.
Senior and RBC Varsity A Team Captain Austin Nappi was very happy with the team’s performance saying, “the combination of great leadership from our coaches Ms. Esposito and Mr. Nesci, and an elaborate strategy to gain points and secure wins, propelled us to victory and helped us bring home to RBC our first ever 1st Place trophy.”
