Tim McCabe ('83) to be Inducted into RBC Athletic Hall of Fame
Posted 04/18/2018 08:00AM

Tim McCabe discovered his passion for golf at the age of thirteen. He went along to watch his father play a round with his friends and when they asked if he wanted to take a swing, he jumped at the chance. Little did he know that taking that swing would be a pivotal moment in his life. With that one shot, it was clear to everyone that Tim was a natural.

By the time he was 15 he shot his first ever par round of 72. With less than a year’s experience, Tim made the RBC varsity golf team and was named All-Shore his sophomore, junior and senior years. He was undefeated his senior year and captured the conference championship at Knob Hill by shooting a one under par 71.

The summer after graduation, Tim won the Norlinger Cup. He received a full scholarship to play for the University of Maryland under head coach and subsequent successful golf professional, Fred Funk. Tim lettered his freshman year at Maryland and was one of University of Maryland’s top five golfers before finishing his collegiate career as their number two player. Tim’s best finish for Maryland was a victory at the U.S. Naval Academy’s invitational in a field of 110 players.

Since then Tim has broken five course records, made eight holes in one to date, and shot a low round of 63 twice. He played his first 63 round at the Heritage Golf Club in Nashville, TN with seven birdies and two eagles. Tim’s second 63 was with a clean scorecard of nine pars and nine birdies at the Calloway Gardens Mountain course in Pine Mountain, GA, known for its extremely small greens and hosting a PGA tour event. In 2004 Tim played some of his best golf with a record 57 straight holes without a bogey and 45 holes without a double-bogey. Tim has competed in many state golf events, US Amateurs, and US Mid-Amateurs. Tim’s dream foursome would be with his son, his daughter and professional golfer Jordan Spieth.

Tim will be inducted into the 2018 Class of the RBC Athletic Hall of Fame on June 23rd. Click HERE for complete information, event details and tickets.
